The formal gardens surrounding the house have been designed and developed over the last few years to enhance the pre-exisiting gardens. The main feature is the original huge yew topiary. To the side of the house is a boxwood knot garden with planting all in white. A 40m rill runs the length of the lower garden bordered by a gravel garden which merges into wide herbaceous beds with a matrix planting in shades of blues and reds.
Beyond the garden the land runs down to the orchard and lake. Forty eight fruit trees provide plums, pears and the apples for your morning juice, ‘The Taste of Townsend‘.
At each end of the rill is an oak loggia where you can take your breakfast, if weather permits. Thousands of bulbs have been planted to give a dramatic and colourful Spring display. A walled vegetable garden, with raised beds, also houses the designer chicken run. Posh accomodation for the suppliers of your morning egg!
